DiversDiary App Reviews

11 Customer Reviews:

This application requires CP210x USB to UART Bridge VCP; once you install this driver - the application still doesn’t work, it does not talk to my dive computer, but now it crashes my Mac as well. I am removing both - application and the faulty driver.

This is a great looking app, but has the little flaw that is not able to make a connection to the dive computer, despite the fact that the USB driver was installed multiple times (should we actually really have to do this in the first place - sounds a hell lot like windows), despite the fact that it actually says DC connection available. Also, the support link to the companies web site has so far been completely useless, and email come back with as undeliverable.

Perfect

I have a Mares Puck computer. This runs better than windows version, and I can connect via USB without any problem, so easy to use. Thank you Mares.

It is exactly as I said: each and every new version of this software solves one problem and creates two. In 1.5.5 it was impossible to save, in 1.5.8 (you may get to it from the mares website) you can save but you can’t sync with iDivers Diary, the iPhone app which is NOT FREE (another every-new-version-a-new-problem). The issue here is not if the software is good or not, but if it works as it should.

Junk

No help files or manual. I found it unusable. Found a much easier to use program by doing a google search.

Beatiful interface, and somewhat intuitive. Works great with some of the mares computers, but not others. For instance, both me and my wife have Mares Puck, while her works fine with this program mine does not (probably another firmware version). While you can argue that that is a Mares related issue, its something that a mac user will have to deal with. Bottom line buying a Mares computer is not a guarantee that it will be recognized by this app. But the real problem with the program is not that, it is the fact that you cannot add dives manually. Thas right, unless you downloaded the data from your dive computer you cannot set manually dive times and dates. How useless is that?

Terrible

How can a company get such low reviews and never attempt to make their product better?

This is the only MAC software for Mares users currently that will show you what your NDL was during the dive. One big problem, you have to manually edit the sqlite file via an editor to change "AIR" to "Air" for the ZDIVETYPE column in table ZDIVE. ******Backup your dive log before tinkering around with an sqlite editor--you can really mess things up.******** In fact, the only way you can edit fields (dates, avg depths, bottom time) is by an sqlite editor. It has some promise, but years behind Mac-Dive 2.2.5. Using a Mares Puck Air with Drak interface.

For reference: I am using a Mares Icon HD dive computer. Review summary: If you use a Mares Icon as well, don’t waste time on this “application”. Review: You know things get really, terribly, mortally embarrassing for a “native” piece of software supplied in conjunction with the hardware manufacturer when the software simply doesn’t work - while unrelated third party software recognizes and operates the hardware just fine. Version 1.5.4 of this garbage application will recognize that there’s a Mares Icon dive computer on USB somewhere… and then utterly and completely fail to do anything with it other than bombard me with messages along the lines of “USB connections to the Mares HD are known to be unstable”. I mean how embarassing is that? Allow me to recommend an alternate product I have been using for a long time: DiveLogDT. It works just fine with the Mares Icon and is generally a far, far better and more comprehensive application on both OS X and iOS. The only reason I ever even tired the abysmal DiversDiary was the fact that DiveLogDT took a while to implement the Mares Icon interface (so I got impatient).

My disclaimer: I haven’t used many of these programs. I have the Puck Pro and wanted the Mac software for it—this is what Mares offers. I like the functions provided. Nice display of the dive and you can look at a variety of parameters such as ascent rate, temperature, etc. But… …the “save” function doesn’t always work. I’ll make an edit to one of my dives (the weight I carried, for instance), and it won’t save it. I haven’t been able to find a work-around for this. Also, the “save as…” function doesn’t work for me at all (when I want to make a duplicate or backup). It seems to work, but when I close and re-open the saved file, it is empty. And, when I go into finder, it shows a much smaller file size than my original. Do you know about this bug and are there plans to fix it?
